One would tend to think that with the Audi Q7, the Porsche Cayenne and the Bentley Bentayga SUV, the Volkswagen group has covered all grounds in the SUV segment. However, in January, Audi unveiled the Q8 SUV Concept that will spawn a new ‘Q’ model in the coming years. Now, the Ingolstadt-based car maker has come up with the Q8 Sport Concept, which is based on the Audi Q8 SUV concept shown earlier. Making its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the Audi Q8 Sport previews the upcoming Audi SQ8 SUV. The all-new Audi Q8 SUV will become the new flagship SUV from the Ingolstadt-based car manufacturer. It will be underpinned by VW’s MLB (Modular Longitudinal Architecture) platform.

The Q8’s long wheelbase should allow it to offer plenty of interior space – probably enough for four adults and a large amount of luggage, too. The original Q8 Concept’s boot could swallow 630 litres of luggage – we expect the production model to boast a similarly spacious loadbay.

Inside, we should find Audi’s next-generation MMI infotainment system – a minimalistic, button-free unit that could feature two central screens in place of the conventional dashboard-mounted display. Gesture control features could also make their way onto the new Q8 while Audi’s 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit screen should come fitted as standard.

The Q8 is expected to be offered with petrol-hybrid drive systems in two different power outputs. The entry-level 3.0-litre V6 petrol-hybrid model should be no slouch, however – it’s expected to produce 443hp and should sprint from 0-62mph in close to 5.5 seconds – thanks to Audi’s quick shifting eight-speed automatic gearbox.

If that isn’t enough performance for you, a more powerful 470hp version could reach 62mph from rest in less than five seconds. Both units should feature Audi’s electric supercharging technology to make them feel as responsive as possible and could help them return more than 120mpg.

Although the Q8 boasts performance figures to match sports cars, it’ll probably be best suited to motorway cruising. Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive system should come as standard, giving the Q8 great grip in all road conditions, while adaptive air suspension could help it soak up any imperfections on the road’s surface.
